Viera TH-P54VT – Panasonics First 3DTV – $5,900

If you are planning on buying a 3DTV this summer this will likely be one of the big contenders among them.

The Panasonic Viera THP54VT will boast some pretty impressive specs. The TV has a native contrast ratio of 5,000,000:1, Viera link, web connectivity and 4 HDMI ports. While I have been unable to find out if this TV is actually a Plasma TV or LCD TV I would like to hope it’s Plasma. The main reason is because Plasma TV’s have an almost instantaneous response time while the fastest LCD’s (the 3D ones) will only be 3ms.

How much is this TV going to cost you? $5,900 – ouch! However this is to be expected, the tech is brand new, so the prices will most likely drop down with in the next couple of years as it becomes cheaper and easier to manufacture.

However don’t let that price get you down, there really isn’t that much content for 3D yet. This is much like 1080P which has been around for about a decade and still isn’t widely used outside of Blu Ray and Video Games. I’m sure over the next few years while the prices on these TV’s drop you will also have more content in 3D.

Gizmodo Report:
A European dealer has slipped to us that a TX-P50VT20 (50-inch 3DTV) will run €2500, or about $3500, according to advanced intel from Panasonic. He said that the same TV in a non-3D version will run €2000 (or $2700). In other words, an $800 premium for 3D is dead-on.

Will I be buying a 3DTV? Not likely, I just bought a Panasonic Viera TC-P50S14 and while I do some issues with it the TV is next to flawless and it cost me less than $1,100 after tax. You really can’t beat that price (actually you can I could have got a S1 for $900 at American but lovely Best Buy likes to sell lesser products) Enough of my ranting though. Will you be getting a 3DTV?
