Very Sophisticated ATM Card Skimmer

For those of you who  don’t know what an ATM card skimmer is, it’s a device used to gain your ATM card’s information. What started out as something that was semi easy to notice if you were paying attention is now just getting insanely scary. This card skimmer was pulled off of a Citibank ATM in Woodland Hills, CA. This one had a pin hole sized camera to record what the users pin number was, and of course it got the cards information as well. Would you have noticed this?

So what can you do to protect yourself? Gizmodo gives a few tips.

What can you do to protect yourself? Just be aware. Look at all the ATMs in the bank you’re in to make sure they all look the same. Look for hidden cameras or extra seams that seem out of place. Look for odd protrusions or elements that have colors that don’t match the rest of the machine. If you’re paying attention, you should be OK. But if you aren’t, you’re at risk for giving up your checking account to a scammer.

I really hope that someone figures out how to make card skimmers obsolete. And those of you scammers out there, while I applaud you with your ingenuity, I hope you get hit by a truck.
