ModNation Racers

I’ll admit I wasn’t happy when my Xbox 360 died on me. I loved that game system. But now that I have looked into all of the games coming out on the PS3 I have to say I’m okay with it dying, and I’m okay with converting over to the PS3. ModNation Racers is one of the games I’m looking forward to playing.

It seems like Little Big Planet wasn’t enough for the PS3′s custom created content. ModNation Racers looks to be aiming to be the next Little Big Planet and I’m pretty positive they will succeed in doing so. I’m a major fan of racing games, my only issue is I have trouble finding good solid racing games. To be honest the only racing games I’ve enjoyed this generation was Forza 2 and Forza 3, however ModNation Racers looks like it’ll be my new addiction on the PS3 come this June.

ModNation Racers is going to focus on the community aspect of things more so than the developer creating tracks to race, which I am perfectly fine with. They promise to have a limitless number of player design combination’s, so essentially your racer could be completely unique to anyone else’s racer. Not only can you customize your little race car driver but you can customize what they drive, which again appears to have limitless combination’s so you can be completely unique to another player, so even if you have the same driver chances are they are in a completely different car.

This is all just baby talk though. When was the last time you got excited over a map creation tool on a console? For me it was Time Splitters Future Perfect (technically I’m excited to play Little Big Planet when I get my PS3 so I suppose that’d be the last time I was excited, sorry I’m a liar…) the game had a pretty solid map creator and a decent way to share those maps online. Since they companies have tried to let their players create maps but to me have failed. Far Cry 2 did an alright job, but to be honest it was just too complex for me to care for, if I have to devote and entire day to make a mediocre map I’m not going to use that tool. However with ModNation Racers I watched someone create the track in about 30 seconds, lay out all the scenery in about 4 minutes and then lay down their power ups in the last 30 seconds. The track looked amazing, and it looked like something that would take you a few hours to create, but nope, it took just 5 minutes. The video is below which also demos other features I have already talked about.

I know I’m a little late to this, and I am sorry for that. However I felt that I needed to share this and wanted to let all my dedicated readers (if you aren’t I think you should probably subscribe to my RSS Feed and bookmark this site) know I will be adding ModNation Racers to my watch list for news and updates.
