So the other day I was in the middle of farming some emblems in World of Warcraft and my girl friend wanted to start watching Marley and Me so I told her to go ahead and pop it in and would be done in a few. A few seconds later she told me that my controller wasn’t syncing up, how odd?
I knew what was about to happen. All of the signs were there.
Basically I knew that it was going to happen, the only question was when was my Xbox 360 going to give up and throw up the 3 Red Rings that symbolized death. Now for those of you unaware of what happens, basically Microsoft is bad with their heat management (look at Steve Ballmer and how sweaty that man can get if you don’t believe me) and over 50% of all Xbox 360’s made will fail. You have a 1 in 2 chance that the Xbox 360 you purchase will never have an issue with overheating, kind of shitty odds huh? I’d rather have a 1 in 10 chance that the $300 (then $400) piece of hardware I’m buying isn’t going to fuck up on me. Anyway what happens is your Xbox acts like a very hot oven, and it cooks the solder to the point of melting it and you then lose connections on the motherboard which makes it no good.
My favorite thing about this is my 360 was manufactured in 2007, and I am guaranteed to be free from the RRoD for 3 years. Well when I register to get my box to ship it in they try to tell me that it’s not under warranty so I have to call Xbox customer care. Of course I get a Hindu to start out and he tries to tell me that my 360 is only covered 3 years after purchase, not 3 years after it was manufactured. Obviously since I bought my first one in 2006 (this is my 2nd time dealing with this, oops guess I should have mentioned that earlier) it is no longer covered (actually just thought about it, it was still covered, those sneaky bastards) so I had to talk to a supervisor and explain to him that my 360 was made in 2007 and was still under the warranty. He agreed almost immediately and had everything set up for me.
Anyway I suppose the best way to bring this to an end (other than with a youtube video) is to say that as soon as I get my Xbox back from being “repaired” I’m trading it to GameStop and will be buying a new, unfortunately not shiny, PS3. I’m sorry Microsoft, I did enjoy the Xbox 360 but the failure rate is killing me and the PS3 is getting some decent exclusives now, and while you do have good exclusives too, it’s just not worth the hassle anymore.
Do you need to fix your Xbox 360? Try the Xbox 360 Repair Guide.
On second thought, I’m going to end with a youtube video.

[...] comes out. I probably will be downloading it the same time as you people over seas though as I think Microsoft is going to take forever to get my 360 back to me, so I wont be able to sell that for a PS3 until [...]

I read 10.6% ps3 failure rate and 54.2% xbox 360 (and i think it was 41% of those had to be resent in for the 360) in septembers game informer… i should take a picture of the article (its a 2 page article with graphs) and send it to you, i think you would enjoy it. you may be able to see it on gameinformer.com too, dont know.

I’m not to worried about saving money for Xbox Live because I did like Xbox Live a ton but yeah the exclusives for the PS3 look a lot better now than the exclusives for the 360. That and it only has a 12% failure rate, from one source I read. Another said lower but can’t recall how low that one said.

Yeah. if you really think about it 360 really only has 3 exclusives anymore anyway, now that they gave joint rights of Bioshock and Lost planet to sony… and the president of epic games has already said gears 3 wont be released till the next gen console is out, so there kindof goes one game you could have been looking forward to out the window for the 360. Halo reach might be decent, and GT5 looks like it will be way more realistic then forza 3 with doors falling off of cars and bumpers scraping on the ground, with the balance of your car being effective as your car gets more beat up… id say, while 360 was the better choice a few years ago for exclusives, PS3 is starting to come out on top. I plan on selling 360 #2 after reach is out if it sucks…
Plus the 50 a year you will be saving from xbox live will buy you a ps3 game lol.
