How Thermal Compound Spreads

Well this past week my computer decided it was going to crap out on me, that would be why there have been no new posts in the past few weeks. I am sorry for this, but my computer parts came today, I built a new (Intel based, sorry AMD, it’s over…) computer and am currently working on tweaking it. It’s a core i5 and when I overclock it, it tells me it is indeed overclocked in the BIOS but everywhere else it is saying it’s stock, I’m assuming it’s because the new Intel chips are made to underclock themselves if they don’t need to be doing that much work, or at least that’s what I remember reading.

Anyway the reason why my computer died is due to the stock heatsink crapping out and frying my processor so I decided to get an aftermarket heatsink as well as some thermal compound. While I have built computers before I have always used the stock heatsink so I needed to know how to apply thermal compound and came across two very interesting videos. This just goes to show that a little bit goes a long way, and a lot a bit will fuck shit up.

I hope you enjoy these videos as much as I did!
