Final Fantasy XIII: The First Few Chapters

To my loyal readers, no I am not dead. To those of you passing by, yes I do update this blog often. To everyone, this is my take on the first few chapters of Final Fantasy XIII. I have no intention to give any spoilers about this game, so I wont delve too deep into the story. I’m actually excited to continue playing so this will be brief as well.

What I Like:

  • Linear feeling is actually nice. I get to pick up the game and just play the story, I don’t have to worry about getting lost or anything. Not only that but I can’t really wander into an area full of tough beasties, so I spend less time dying and more time playing.
  • Combat system while it is pretty easy at first it starts to get more and more complex. There are some battles where I have change fighting styles many many times in order to beat the foe in a decent amount of time.
  • The graphics are gorgeous. The very first battle you may question them however after that it’s beauty the rest of the way. There are times where I will question if what I’m seeing for cut scenes is the CGI or the actual game engine. Most of the time it’s the actual game engine rendering the graphics, that’s how beautiful this game is.
  • Upgrade system, you can upgrade all of your weapons by collecting components. Each component gives different benefits and experience. I do intend on writing up an article about which items do what. I will probably get to that this weekend so be on the look out for that!
  • Crystarium system works very well. This is what you use to level up certain aspects of the characters, just be warned that at first you don’t get to do much with this but after a little while of playing it gives you an unlocked crystarium window.

What I don’t like:

  • The game starts out slow, you don’t have much freedom. However I think this was the best way about building the games, giving the player a little bit at a time, I just wish there was an option to do a tutorial or to skip it all together.
  • You can’t pick your party leader still. I am still towards the beginning of the game only logging around 6 hours of game play however I still can’t pick out my party or even who is the party leader. While I don’t mind this that much I just wish I was given the option.

That’s all I have for now. I have the next few days off so I plan on logging quite a few hours of gameplay while I am off. I do have my dads birthday this weekend however so that will take away from my game time however I will hopefully have a 100% written review up by the end of next week. Sorry for such a delay for a review but I don’t get my games in advance like some places do.
