Cody’s Reasons to Own a PS3

I just purchased a 250gb PS3 today (wanted the 120 but that SKU was sold out) and I can’t say that I’m upset one bit. Okay well I am a little upset as I didn’t want to spend $209 of my own money (which after the eBay auctions came out to be about $70) and if the 120gb was in stock I would have been able to save some money but oh well that’s behind me now. I currently only own Metal Gear Solid 4 and have played it for about an hour and the game is pretty amazing but since I played this game months ago I wanted to try out some new things I haven’t played before.

So for the past couple of hours I’ve been playing around with PlayStation Home which is a pretty interesting application however I can’t say I see the point to it. But then again I only was screwing around on it for an hour or so and went bowling and played both of the arcarde games in the bowling alley. Anyway I suppose it’s time to get to my reasons why you should own one right?

Reason Number One

Free Online!! I have yet to play any games over PSN yet however I can’t imagine it’d be any different from Xbox Live. Maybe it wont be integrated as well, but honestly as long as I can play a game online against other people and save $60 a year that’s fine by me. I can spend that money on downloadable PSN games such as Noby Noby Boy.

Reason Number Two

Integrated Wireless Adapter. This means you don’t have to spend $100 to get a wireless connection out of your console. Not only that but it’s internal so you don’t have anything on the outside of it making it look less sleek. I haven’t used the wireless for this either as I am a big fan of my ethernet connections and my router is about 5 feet away from my PS3 so it’s pointless to use the wireless connection. However if I ever take it downstairs to the 55″ TV (which I don’t see that happening…) then I could play multiplayer games online without any hassle. Pretty nice!

Reason Number Three

Removable Hard Drive. I know what you Microsoft fan boys are thinking. However I can actually add a cheap hard drive in my PS3. Now I realize I have a 250gb one, and even though the guy at gamestop said that is all I need, I can almost guarantee you that my E-PEEN isn’t big enough so one day I may decide to slap a 1 TB hard drive in my PS3. Now if Microsoft ever offered a 1 TB hard drive you would have pay either one arm and one leg or you’d have to sell your soul as it would be that expensive.

Reason Number Four

Cheap PSN Games. That’s right, I just bought Noby Noby Boy for $5.29 and it comes with an alright number of trophies. The main reason I got the game isn’t because it looked fun (even though it did) but it’s because for $5 and 12 Trophies how could I go wrong? Not to mention I don’t have to buy a set number of points to buy the game which results in me paying more money for the game because Microsoft makes it so you can’t just buy the game with your credit card and pay how much it cost. But anyway, it looks like there are a decent number of $5 titles that have Trophy support so I’m thinking I will be buying a new PSN game each paycheck, maybe I’ll buy 2?!

Reason Number Five

They Don’t Die That Much. I don’t know the actual failure rate on these bad boys, however I do know it’s no where near 54% and I also am aware that when they break it only takes a week or 2 to get it back, not a month or 2.

Reason Number Six

Blu-Ray. I’ll say this time and time again that Blu-Ray will be dead in the next few years when downloadable media becomes the mainstream thing, however it’s nice having something that will play Blu-Ray movies. Not only that but the Blu-Ray disc can hold 25gb-50gb of data from what I remember and that is quite a bit more than what the 360 can hold (9gb) so because of that we can expect some better games coming out of the pipeline as the PS3 matures.

Reason Number Seven

Web Browser. Okay the web browser kind of sucks. I will admit I’m not a fan of it, however it’s nice to have the ability to search the internet for game info while you are at your console rather than having to get up and go to the computer. If I didn’t have a computer a foot away from my PS3 I probably would use this browser.
