Battlefield Bad Company 2: Multiplayer Review

bad company 2 multiplayer 600x337 Battlefield Bad Company 2: Multiplayer Review

What makes a game a successful multiplayer experience? Is it balanced gameplay or is it the ability to stay up until the early hours of the morning playing it? It’s actually a little harder still. You see for a game to have a truly successful multiplayer experience it needs balanced gameplay which keeps the player playing the game until the early hours of the morning. Then the game needs a way to keep you playing, whether it be unlocking weapons or just ranking up, it needs something to keep you coming back for more.

Battlefield Bad Company 2 is the perfect example of a successful multiplayer experience. When you first start out it can take some getting used to. If you are expecting this game to be exactly like Modern Warfare then you need to take a break from shooting games, pick up a racing game such as Pure and cleanse yourself. After you have forgotten about Modern Warfare 2 you are ready to get started. You get to pick between 4 classes; Assault, Engineer, Medic and Recon. Currently I’ve played most of the game as the Recon class which gives you some bad ass sniper rifles. At first you wont get too many kills as your starting gadgets aren’t the best. You are stuck with just having C4, however once you unlock your Mortar strike you can really start to do some damage.

While I have not had too much experience with the other classes from what I have played as them it seems like all of the classes when you start out will yield you very few kills. You may get lucky and get more kills however it seems like the more you unlock the easier it gets to kill other players. Actually after taking some time playing the other classes it seems like the game in general just takes time to get used to and once you are used to the game you should do fine as any class. I play as the assault class when I am having problems finding good spots to snipe and despite not having that much unlocked I can often get over 1,000 points per game no problem.

Battlefield Bad Company 2 is addicitng. The very first time you jump into a tank and unleash a whole shit storm of chaos upon your enemies you will be hooked. I know the first time I went on an all out assault on the opposing team and killed quite a few of them, before a well placed C4 explosive took out my tank, I was hooked. With other games when playing the online component you don’t really get vehicles that you can drive that just completely ruin the other persons day. Sure Halo has their Wraith, but that’s not a very effective killing machine. The Scorpion was but isn’t in Matchmaking for obvious reasons. With Modern Warfare 2 you have the same issue, sure you can jump in the gunner seat of a chopper or in an AC-130 but often times that is short lived as a javelin blows you up along with the issue of getting an 11 kill streak.

The lack of “kill streaks” is to me what makes Bad Company 2 so enjoyable. No longer do you have to stress about that one last kill before your Predator Missile, which will lead to a Harrier which will then lead to your AC-130 or Chopper Gunner. With Bad Company you don’t have to worry about that, you have your vehicles that can yield a massive amount of kills, while still be fairly easy to destroy if the enemy is ballsy enough to run at you and drop some C4.

The unlockables also help in making this game very addictive. When you start out you have alright weapons, but as you use weapons of certain classes you unlock more weapons of that same class, as well as addons for those weapons. It’s not quite like Modern Warfare 2 where you have to use the same weapon to unlock that weapons addons, you just have to use that weapons class and you unlock the addons for every weapon in that class. For example, I now unlocked the 12x Optics addon for my sniper rifle, I can use it for my M24 or any other rifle that I wish to use down the road. The same goes for when you unlock the 4x Optic for your Assault Rifles, which by the way makes them an absolute powerhouse of a class.

What is a multiplayer game without having a rank next to your name showing you are better than everyone else? It actually isn’t a multiplayer game at all if there isn’t a way to show off your hard earned score and because of that Bad Company has many ways to be a show off. They have a leaderboard so you can see where you stack up against the rest of the world, as well as a skill level that you receive for your total score that is displayed by your name. As your skill level gets higher you also unlock more weapons and skills to use, and you have a total of 50 skill levels to progress through. To my knowledge there isn’t a “prestige” system in this game which to me is completely fine. Who honestly wants to lose all their weapons and have to unlock all of them again? Not me.

I am getting close to 1,000 words, so why are you still reading this? I have nothing but good things to say about the Bad Company 2 multiplayer, and I could go on for probably another 1,000 words but I think you will get more out of just ordering the game from Amazon Battlefield Bad Company 2: Multiplayer Review or going out to GameStop and buying the game. Are you low on cash? Why not get rid of Modern Warfare 2, GameStop gave me $40 for my copy of the game, because honestly once you play Bad Company for an hour, you will never want to play Modern Warfare 2 again.

If you need someone to play online with I play on the PlayStation Network under the name of EmotionalNinja.
